Indian Spiced Chai

Masala Indian Spiced Chai Recipe

Masala Chai Ingredients:

  • (2) cups Water
  • (4) 1 1/2 in. slices fresh ginger (peeled)
  • (1) 2 inch cinnamon stick
  • (4) whole cloves
  • (1) teaspoon powdered cardamom
  • (1) 6 inch vanilla bean (cut up into 1 inch pieces)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • (1) dash nutmeg
  • (1) Tablespoon sugar
  • (1/4) cup honey
  • (3) Assam or Darjeeling Black Tea tea bags
  • (2) cups milk

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and then add in teabags plus all remaining ingredients except the milk. Reduce heat and simmer about 5 minutes stirring occasionally. Add milk and bring to boil, then remove from heat. Strain the tea through strainer and serve hot or in a tall glass filled with ice.

Chai recipes are fun to make from scratch or start with an authentic Indian spiced chai recipe like our Kama Sutra Blend and make small variances to suit your tastes. Different black teas can also be substituted in this Indian spiced chai recipe but it is best to start with broken orange pekoe or CTC loose leaf tea from India for the most authentic homemade chai.
